Description

The California Wolf Center’s (CWC) Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for planning, development and implementation of the organization’s Volunteer Program that supports the mission of CWC. She/he will recruit, train and manage volunteers. She/he is also responsible for coordinating the program to expand CWC’s volunteer base, retain existing volunteers and enhance the volunteer experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage volunteers including recruitment, training and scheduling
• Schedule and lead training of new volunteers and interns and determine best fit for specific areas (education, wolf care, facilities)
• Review/update volunteer training manual as needed
• Provide ongoing communication with volunteers via email and newsletter
• Serve as primary liaison for volunteer/member related inquiries
• Respond to e-mail and all correspondence in a timely and courteous manner
• Develop, manage, and oversee volunteer budget
• Create an incentive and recognition program that rewards volunteers for their dedication to CWC
• Provide monthly reports on volunteer program and membership new/renewals
• Maintain database on volunteer hours worked, training, contact information
• Serve on relevant committees and attend committee meetings, as necessary
• Receive training to assist other departments as needed, including animal care/husbandry and Educational Tours
• Other Duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Professional, poised and efficient manner in working with the public, volunteers and staff; strong customer service sensibility and diplomacy
• Strong listening and problem-solving skills
• Excellent writing and oral presentation skills, and an enthusiastic and energetic personality; confident verbal communicator to a variety of audiences
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
• Working knowledge of Volunteer Management Software (Volgistics) and Donor Management Software (Donor Perfect)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Experience in volunteer management position
• knowledge of and/or interest in wolf recovery and conservation

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work will be performed in an office environment, on the grounds of CWC in Julian, CA. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than two (2) hours per day. Hours are set in coordination with staffing needs and may vary based on animal care or travel. Some travel requirements may occur, for which private means of transportation must be available along with a valid driver’s license. Weekend and evening hours required according to the needs of the project at hand. Weather conditions due to CWC’s location can vary from high temperatures to freezing, windy and snowy.

Education and Pre-requisites

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, education or related field. Minimum 2 years’ experience working in wildlife conservation center/zoo or museum in volunteer management or education, or a combination of the above. Valid California driver’s license required.

Compensation and benefits

Part-time, 24-30 hours/week
hourly, non-exempt

Salary range: $17 – $22 per hour
