Description
Employee is responsible for assisting with the care and well being of resident animals including; diet preparation, feeding and watering, animal husbandry and enrichment activities, noting behavior abnormalities, and cleaning, disinfecting and maintenance of enclosures ie; inspect enclosures, fencing, pools for cleanliness and structural defects and make minor repairs as necessary. May also assist with guided visits to guests. Other tasks include maintaining sanctuary grounds including: maintaining habitats and pools, tree trimming, mowing, weed whacking, gardening, digging, minor construction repairs, construction of habitats, event set up/break down and overall environmental maintenance. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Pre-requisites
Prior experience working with and around exotic animals, with proven ability to provide day to day husbandry and maintenance support is required. In particular, experience with Felidae and Ursidae species. Bachelors/Masters degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Behavior or a similar field is a plus.
Must have a can-do attitude, be a team player, excellent communication skills and the ability to follow directions in both the written and oral form. Must have a love for animals and be passionate about our mission and follow all safety protocols and guidelines.
