Description
Organization Description:
The Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is a 501c3 that was established in 2002 by Jean LeFevre with the mission to rescue and provide a loving and exceptional home to non-releasable wolves and wolf dogs, and to educate the public about these animals. Over the past 16 years, SFWS has rescued and offered sanctuary living to 36 wolves and/or wolf dogs and currently has 12 animals in residence. Daily operations are supported by staff, animal-care interns, and volunteers. The organization is supported through onsite programming, tours, general donations, and events. Currently, SFWS is developing a new sanctuary site, in which we will be able to increase the number of animals in our collection through our nationwide rescue efforts.
Sanctuary Curator Job Responsibilities:
The Sanctuary Curator (SC) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of animal and facilities management. Duties generally include making decisions involving animal selection and husbandry, diets, veterinary care, animal training, enrichment activities, animal rescue operations, internship training programs, and general administration. The SC must also be adept at generating and implementing animal care policies, working through Board Committees, and collecting and reporting sanctuary data.
The SC will have supervisory duties with regards to interns and volunteers serving SFWS. He/She will be involved in hiring, training, and scheduling interns and volunteers who work on site on a weekly basis, while supporting an environment of teamwork and collaboration. The SC is also responsible for ensuring that SFWS facilities meet all state and federal regulatory requirements, obtain and maintain all necessary permits, and that guests, staff, and volunteers are kept safe while they are on the premises.
The SC will be required to work a flexible schedule, including working a weekend day within their 40 hour work week. As with many animal-related careers, some evening hours may be necessary on occasion. He/She may be “on call” to deal with emergencies or staffing issues as they arise.
