Description

Let your need to nurture guide you here.

If you love caring for dogs and want to play a part in keeping them healthy and thriving as they grow to become a special match for a person who is visually impaired or blind, consider joining Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB). As part of the Neonatal Kennel Technician team at our San Rafael, California campus, you will be a key member of the team that assists with whelping and caring for puppies and their mothers.
You will take on varied duties that may include feeding, bathing, medicating, and maintaining a clean kennel environment to meet strict biosecurity protocols and providing enrichment and socialization to ensure optimal psychological health of the dogs in our care. This role also provides specialized care for newborn puppies, whelping mothers, and other special vet cases, and handles data entry and duties related to arrival or release of dogs.
What sets us apart?
• You’ll start with a 3-month training and mentorship program to help you understand our protocols and policies. GDB has a commitment to quality care and constant improvement and backs it up with resources.
• A new, 28,000-square-foot Puppy Center with a nursery that protects the wellbeing of our puppies, enhances their socialization experience, and allows staff and volunteers to perform their roles efficiently and ergonomically.
• You’ll appreciate the dedication and support of team members who always go the extra mile and have each other’s backs.
• With GDB, you will do more than at the average kennel. You will learn about whelping, intubating, c-sections, sonograms, and intensive care. Your knowledge will expand as you handle unique cases and learn new techniques.
• Because our kennels are a 24/7 operation, you will need the flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and holidays. More than anything, you need to be collaborative and committed to quality and safety.
• We pay more than the average kennel, because our roles are more complex. In addition, you’ll appreciate our generous benefits package that includes medical/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, 403(b), tuition reimbursement, and great wellness perks like yoga, circuit training, and an onsite gym.
• You can bring your dog to work!

The qualifications you’ll need:
• Experience caring for dogs in a kennel, vet, or training environment preferred
• Ability to properly interpret treatment plans and prescriptions and administer medications
• Understanding of kennel procedures and strict disease control
• Physical stamina to be on your feet bending, lifting, scooping, and hosing
• Ability to work weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays
