Job Summary:
The Project Manager, Bronx Zoo Facilities dept., provides oversight to the execution of various Capital Projects and infrastructure upgrades throughout the Bronx Zoo. The Project Manager provides direction to contractors working throughout the park to upgrade, repair or replace the facility’s buildings, exhibits, animal holding areas, office spaces, classrooms and public pathways and grounds. This role contributes effectively to create the best possible guest experience for those visiting the zoo.

Major Responsibilities:
The individual’s main responsibilities will be to oversee the development and completion of Capital Projects throughout the Bronx Zoo. Supervise general contractors, various tradesmen and technicians. The ability to develop project scopes of work, identify solutions to varied complex mechanical and structural issues. A history of hands-on construction disciplines, general contracting and project management is preferred.
Oversee the Capital Infrastructure upgrades including construction, demolition, re-building, alteration, repair, and modification of the facilities and grounds, including site work, roads, paths, fences, buildings, façade & roofing, building systems, exhibits, animal holdings, equipment, pools, and dams.
Ensure that contracted vendors operate at a consistent, efficient and effective level, and in compliance with WCS policies and procedures.
Plan all phases of construction lifecycle from scope of work development to completion. Order necessary supplies and equipment.
Provide project management by overseeing the day-to-day activities of contractors, establish & maintain processes, set quality & performance standards.
Develop and adhere to the budget, timeline and quality control plans. Evaluate progress and prepare punch lists.
Ensure projects are aligned with agreed upon plans. Communicate project plans, access requirements, shutdowns and updates to stakeholders & management. Deliver project progress reports.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, expeditors and other specialists in the development and execution of project specifications and design drawings.
Work with the Purchasing department in developing and executing Invitation to Bids (ITB’s) or Request for Proposals (RFP’s) with outside vendors, conduct walkthroughs, answer vendor questions and conduct bid leveling analysis.
Ensure that all local, state, and national building codes and safety standards are being followed. Work with the WCS Risk Management Department to ensure vendors are in compliance with OSHA and other environmental regulations.

Education and Pre-requisites

Job Qualifications:
Minimum of 5-7 years executing and managing projects relating to site work, roof work, carpentry, masonry, mechanical systems and general construction as well as safety codes. Familiarization of working at a campus environment and commercial buildings
Five or more years of Project Management experience or similar experience in managing trades within the construction or general contracting field.
Project management certification or similar education preferred.
Previous experience managing vendors is preferred.
Excels at organization, problem solving, and building strong relationships with clients, contractors and vendors.
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Compensation and benefits

Salary Range :
$85,000 – $105,000
