Description
DUTIES:
improves, repairs and maintains park facilities and properties by performing highly skilled tasks including but not limited to welding, pipe fitting, plumbing, masonry, electrical, carpentry and general construction work. Repairs and maintains restroom fixtures, flush valves, water and sewer lines, drinking fountains, pumps and automatic valves; tests and repairs backflow devices; tests, troubleshoots and repairs irrigation systems including but not limited to controllers, moisture sensors and remote control valves. Repairs damaged plaster, asphalt and concrete surfaces; lays brick, tile and blocks; fabricates, installs and repairs metal gates, flooring, benches, supports and other items; constructs and repairs overhead structures, roofs, door frames, tables and other structures; troubleshoots, installs or repairs electrical circuits, lighting fixtures, etc.; inspects park structures to ensure safe operation and determines the need for repair or maintenance. Completes and keeps records or job order assignments in support of other park operation sections; follows up on service of equipment and maintains a personal tool inventory. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs. Performs related functions as assigned or needed.
Education and Pre-requisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years experience in general outdoor facility maintenance and repair involving plumbing, irrigation, welding, masonry, electrical and carpentry work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge of: materials, equipment and methods used in the correct and safe maintenance, repair and construction work in the area of assignment; use of power tools and equipment in the construction, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, masonry, welding and plumbing trades; general construction and landscape construction codes.
Ability to: perform skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work in the area of work assigned; use and maintain common hand tools, small power equipment and other facility equipment; follow verbal and written instructions; learn necessary safety requirements; read and interpret construction drawings; maintain harmonious working relationships with the public and other employees; lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession and retention of a valid California Class C driver’s license is a condition of employment.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Willingness to work any shift including nights, weekends and holidays.
Willingness and ability to work around animals if assigned to the Santa Ana Zoo.
Possession of Aquatic Technician certification is highly desirable.
Training as a Journeyman Electrician is highly desirable.
Possession and retention of valid California Class A and B driver’s licenses is desirable.
Course work in Total Quality Service desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Willingness and ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Compensation and benefits
$5,004.00 – $6,705.00 Monthly + Excellent Benefits + Retirement Plan
