Description

The Lemur Conservation Foundation (LCF) is looking for someone with excellent organizational and communication skills to assist with the implementation of our Madagascar Programs and to manage the activities of our Conservation Education, Research, Outreach, and Volunteer Programs.

This is a full time position reporting to the Executive Director and Conservation Program Director.

Responsibilities:

Madagascar Conservation Program
– Assist the Conservation Program Director in coordinating efforts in Anjanaharibe-Sud Special Reserve, which includes lemur census work, education programs in local schools, and coordination with Madagascar National Parks and local communities to increase park protection.

Ako Conservation Education Program
– Oversee the distribution and promotion of the Ako children’s books and accompanying lesson plans and materials to zoos, schools, and conservation organizations.
– Coordinate Ako Conservation Education Training Workshops for teachers and zoological educators.
– Develop and coordinate the implementation of assessments to evaluate US and Madagascar based conservation education programs.

Research Program
– Manage onsite research projects and promote LCF’s research opportunities within the academic, zoological, and conservation communities.
– Coordinate the review and approval of research proposals through LCF’s IACUC and Scientific Advisory Council.
– Coordinate, supervise, and support Field Training Programs offered by our partnering colleges and universities.
– This position also offers an opportunity to develop and implement independent or collaborative research projects at LCF.

Volunteer and Outreach Programs
– Manage the recruitment, training, supervision, recognition, placement and evaluation of volunteers.
– Participate in onsite and off-grounds educational activities and special events to promote lemur conservation.

Additional Responsibilities:
– Maintain financial records for programs and assist with the development and implementation of relevant budgets.
– Submit program reports of activities and evaluation results.
– May serve as the primary supervisor at the reserve.

Education and Pre-requisites

Qualifications/Experience:
– A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university and two years related experience
– Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
– Possession of a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
– Current negative TB test
– Willingness to work weekends and holidays
– Previous animal keeper and program management experience is preferred
– May require domestic and international travel

Compensation and benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience. Onsite housing in Myakka City, FL and a benefits package is provided.
