Description
This position is responsible to design, facilitate, and assess on-site educational programs for a variety of audiences including school-aged students, young children, families, and adults. Programs are intended to foster appreciation for and understanding of animals, nature and conservation.
We are pleased to offer this Part-time position an Employee Assistance Program, 401k, Paid CA Sick time on an accrued basis. The minimum pay for this position is $16/hr. Offers will be based on the successful candidate’s experience.
Essential Functions
· Designs lesson plans and activities to present age-appropriate information focused on wildlife, nature, and habitats.
· Develops detailed themes, lesson plans, and activities for virtual, onsite and offsite programs.
· Provides training and direction to Docents and Teen Volunteers to ensure they are equipped to present lesson plans and lead classroom activities.
· Conducts all program in a professional, engaging manner.
· Utilizes surveys and informal interviews to assess the effectiveness of programs, and summer camp programs. Adapt content, materials, and other aspects of each program based on participant feedback.
· Assists with development of interpretive messaging/graphics to be used in Zoo exhibit signage.
· Participates in animal handling programs and Zoomobile activities. Maintains annual certification for animal handling procedures.
· Assists with Behind the Scenes programs.
· Communicates logistics of programs and lab field trips with teachers, docents, and interdepartmentally.
· Proper care and handling of Biological Artifacts for program use.
· Maintains a safe and healthy environment for all of our campers.
· Perform other tasks and projects as requested.
Education and Pre-requisites
Qualifications/Minimum Job Requirements:
· High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) degree required.
· Valid California driver’s license.
· Strong verbal and written English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills a plus.
· Ability to work directly with animals to present animal based programs in a classroom setting.
· Ability to work seasonally-scheduled program hours, including occasional weekends, evenings and holidays
