Description
Applications are now being accepted for Assistant Supervisor at Save the Chimps, Inc., the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, located in Fort Pierce, FL. An Assistant Supervisor is responsible for performing labor-intensive tasks in the care and well being of chimpanzees. This is a transitional position during which an employee is trained for several months for the duties of Chimpanzee Care Supervisor, learning multiple tasks including feeding chimps, operating doors and locks, social management of chimpanzee groups, and directing other employees. An Assistant Supervisor also cleans chimpanzee buildings, prepares food and enrichment for the chimps, observes the chimps for injury or illness, and checks locks for security.
Education and Pre-requisites
Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred. Applicants must also have a minimum of one year’s experience caring for chimpanzees in a captive setting. Applicants who do not have one year’s experience caring for chimpanzees will not be considered. Experience supervising others is preferred. The successful applicant will be compassionate towards and cooperative with chimpanzees, have a friendly and positive outlook, work well with others, learn quickly, and understand and follow directions well.
