Description
The Ambassador Animal Program consists of heavy public interaction as well as animal care. The Ambassador collection of animals is to be utilized for educational purposes and the ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the basic husbandry needs of the collection and performs daily care while also able to effectively communicate with the public in an educational setting.
This position is considered supervisory and will be responsible for training Animal Care Professionals, Animal Care Aides, as well as future interns, docents, and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have an inclusive mindset and desire to create a safe, positive, and healthy work environment.
Education and Pre-requisites
Preferred Qualifications, Education, and Experience
– Degree in Biology, Zoology, Education, or related field or 5+ years’ experience including a minimum of 1.5 years in a supervisory capacity.
– Ability to utilize various programs such as ZIMS, Microsoft Office Suite.
– Detail and observation oriented with a strong affinity for up to date and accurate record keeping.
– Ability to lead and inspire colleagues, guests, and volunteers.
– Ability to live within a 45-minute commute of the Park.
– Motivation to continuously grow within the position and the field; Continuing Education opportunities will be made available. (Relevant workshops, conferences, webinars, etc. will be considered)
– Ability to operate Kawasaki Mules, Golf Carts, assorted touring vehicles, etc.
– Experience in designing and implementing SOPs, routine staff/volunteer training guidelines, risk assessments, and safety procedures.
– Collaboration in collection planning inclusive of educational, conservation, and management needs.
Compensation and benefits
Pay: $25/hour (approx. $52,000 annually)
Full-Time Position
Benefits: Partially subsidized insurance (medical, dental, vision), as well as 401K savings (after 12 months of service). Compensatory time off, a length-of-service related leave system, and staff discounts for accommodations, retail, and food and beverage are applicable. Annual merit raises and bonuses considered. Relocation compensation considered.
