Department/Division/Section: Administration – Assistant General Manager

Job Summary/Essential Functions:
The Assistant General Manger will function as a revenue manager at Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, SC with full P&L responsibility. Ripley’s Attractions are a fun, fast paced, and team oriented environment. The Assistant General Manager provides hands on support to daily operations and close staff interaction. This position reports directly to the General Manager, and works closely with the entire team of Ripley’s Aquarium managers.
Ripley’s Aquarium is an 87,000 sq. ft. aquarium boasting more than 1.2 million gallons of water and over 10,000 animals including sharks, stingrays, a sea turtle, brilliantly colored reef fish, jellyfish, and more. We entertain and educate our guests with exciting interactive and educational experiences throughout their visit. The Aquarium is one of five attractions in Myrtle Beach in the Ripley Entertainment family; other attractions include a Believe It or Not Odditorium, Mirror Maze, 5D Moving Theater and Haunted Adventure.

Overview

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

• Oversee revenue-generating departments of Ripley’s Aquarium with full P&L responsibility.
• Work directly with Department Heads to help drive revenue while managing costs, and to develop, promote and execute a strong Guest Experience program.
• Assist managers in driving sales through development of sales goals, contests and team motivation.
• Provide leadership and vision to the organization by assisting General Manager and staff with the development of long range and annual plans, and with the evaluation and reporting of progress on plans.
• Provide assistance and feedback on employee development and training.
• Assist in policy development and documentation.
• Assist with the preparation of annual budget.
• Manage, develop, evaluate and provide feedback for direct reports.
• In absence of General Manager, lead and direct day-to-day operations throughout the Aquarium.
• Encourage and model cross-departmental cooperation and communication to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency for all programs. Share best practices between departments and with other Ripley’s attractions.
• Manage and develop a variety of projects, as assigned by General Manager.
• Some evenings, weekends and holidays required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years experience working in Management.
• Degree in Business Administration, Business Development or related field is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint
• Proven skills in business and financial management.
• Excellent, proven interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team of managers.
• Articulate, organized and well-spoken.
• Effective mediation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to multi – task and work in a dynamic fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress and crisis situations.
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving and judgment skills
• Ability to speak other languages
