Summary of Position Functions:
WCS has over $100,000,000 in accounts receivable from various private donors, private and public grant/contract sponsors, and commercial vendors. There are currently 700 active grants and with an invoice volume of 2,000 yearly This position is responsible for financial and administrative functions to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the invoicing, recording, reconciliation, and collection of WCS operating receivables. The position reports to the Director – Accounts Receivable and will assist in the management of the other staff in the unit.
Responsibilities
Monitor the invoice preparation/review by the two junior staff and adjust the workload as needed.
Review grants and contracts to determine revenue recognition criteria for a specific agreement in accordance with FASB’s new Revenue Recognition Standard, effective July 1, 2018, for WCS.
Perform day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting, and recording accounts receivables’ data.
Review and preparation of financial reports and invoices.
Process incoming receivable payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
In coordination with the regional controllers, review the Global Offices accounts receivable activity to ensure that all payments are accounted for, properly posted and local receivable/revenue are accurately booked.
Facilitate payment of invoices due by sending reminders and contacting grantors
Follow-up with the appropriate office on delinquent payments, e.g., GR, Country Office, Regional Office.
Verify discrepancies and resolve clients’ billing/invoicing issues.
Generate financial statements and reports detailing accounts receivable status, e.g., aging reports.
Perform other duties and special projects in the accounting department as directed by the Director.
Education and Pre-requisites
The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable participating as both an effective contributor, leader, and listener in group settings. S/He must be well organized, self-motivated, resourceful, effective, and efficient at coordinating multiple resources to get things done, with strong attention to detail; can work on multiple tasks at multiple levels and switch between them; can foresee and plan around obstacles.
Bachelor’s Degree with accounting/business/finance specialization.
Four years working experience as accounts receivable clerk, accounts receivable
specialist, accounts receivable manager or other accounting function.
Proven grant experience required at the reporting level back to donor.
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, fair credit practices and collection regulations
Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records such as trial balances.
Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
Effective “roll up the sleeves” work ethic; Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team. Must be solution-oriented, have strong problem solving and analytical skills and take initiative.
Ability to complete work on schedule with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Have a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook and hands-on experience working with accounting/accounts receivable software.
Customer service orientation and negotiation skills.
Willing and able to be responsive and have efficient communications with colleagues in both New York and overseas.
Audit experience a plus.

Compensation and benefits
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000
