Description
Under the supervision of the Husbandry Manager, the Registrar is responsible for administering and managing the animal records database, Tracks and maintaining all associated permits and licenses required for possessing, exhibiting, and transporting live animals; documenting and helping coordinate all animal transactions.
Education and Pre-requisites
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and training.
• 1+ year experience providing familiarity of: records management; database management or administration; zoological records systems (preferably Tracks); general knowledge of taxonomy/natural history/animal husbandry; and animal welfare standards and wildlife laws & regulations specific to the exhibition, breeding, domestic and international transport of live animals.
• Proficiency in computer programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and the capacity to use good judgment and use of decision-making authority.
• Good written and oral communication skills required including the ability to clearly, compassionately, and respectfully engage in discussion and prevent/resolve conflict with a diverse staff in a team setting.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a larger team environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
Major Job Responsibilities
• Administer, manage, and train others on electronic animal record-keeping program, Tracks, with an eye for detail, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to record-keeping standards and guidelines.
• Check/enter historical records for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to record-keeping standards and guidelines.
• Recommends and establishes animal records and information management programs to ensure best practices for records retention, disposition, and preservation and related systems management.
• Ensure all relevant permits and licenses are acquired and maintained, including sending reports to regulatory agencies as necessary, including AZA, USDA, CDFW, USFWS, CDFA, etc.
• Assist in coordinating animal transactions with respect to adherence to policies, procedures, documentation, and regulations.
• Compile annual inventory for USDA, AZA, and other standards/regulatory agencies.
• Assist Husbandry Manager with ensuring that the Husbandry team as a whole is aware of regulatory updates and requirements.
• Contribute to the mission of the California Science Center by stimulating curiosity and inspiring science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences.
• Preform other duties as needed.
Compensation and benefits
$20.00 an hour.
