Position Objective:
The Facility Operations Maintainer (FOM) is a technical, safety- sensitive, and essential position responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of New York Aquarium’s electrical, HVAC, water, gas, building infrastructure and other related work as required. The FOM is expected to perform high quality work in support of New York Aquarium’s mission.

Principal Responsibilities:
Perform preventative maintenance tasks and affect necessary repairs on all facilities maintenance and infrastructure related equipment including, but not limited to, HVAC units, chillers, cooling towers, sanitary ejector systems (force mains), circulator pumps, boilers heat exchangers, lighting systems, and electrical systems.
Perform general maintenance of building systems including, but not limited to, envelope, painting, carpentry, lighting, door hardware, and finishes.
Maintain accurate records; generates work daily log sheets in a neat and orderly fashion, uses computer, MS Office and MS Outlook
Assists in other animal care areas as assigned.
Performs various troubleshooting techniques related to system problems and/or malfunctions and responds to emergencies.
Ensure safety of self, animals, co-workers and visitors by observing safety guidelines around the animals, equipment, and vehicles.
Utilizes chemical supply products and follows standardized usage guidelines and safety information as set by the Safety Data Sheets.
Read, understand and utilize technical manuals and data regarding Facilities Maintenance methodology and equipment
Operate New York Aquarium vehicles as needed for field investigations and to retrieve or deliver materials from or to local business, suppliers, etc.

Education and Pre-requisites

Job Qualification:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years’ experience in plumbing, heating, carpentry, electrical or maintenance work.
Valid driver’s license
Must be able to work weekend days, nights and holidays as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb and work from ladders up to 20ft in height.
Ability to work indoors, outdoors and in all weather conditions.
