Description
Barn Hill Preserve is an 18-acre facility in Ethel, LA. We are home to over 150 animals consisting of 35+ species. Barn Hill is 8 years old and constantly evolving and growing. Our sister non-profit organization recently spent 2 months in Australia helping with bushfire rescue. We travel to Costa Rica yearly to work with in situ conservation initiatives, while also fundraising through special events in the US. We are seeking dynamic, versatile, adaptable, and experienced people to join our close knit team.
As an intern, you will learn both sides of our company, including education and animal care.
On animal care, staff will be responsible for providing daily enrichment, cleaning, and feeding of our animal population. The population includes a variety of taxa from reptiles to birds to small carnivores.
In addition to animal care, the ideal candidate will be comfortable facilitating encounter tours to groups of 20+ guests as needed. Public speaking experience is a must.
Tour guide duties include:
Public speaking
Ensuring guest and animal safety during encounter tours
Working special events after hours
Education and Pre-requisites
Interest in exotic animal care is a must. Experience preferred but not required.
Compensation and benefits
$8/hour at 40 hours per week PLUS free housing
