Description

ZooWorld Zoological Park is a five-acre facility located just minutes from the beautiful white sandy beaches of Florida’s emerald coast. Seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to fill a full-time, permanent Zoo Keeper 2 position.
This position will care for a variety of exotic animals, to include class 1 animals in a fast paced educationally focused environment. As part of the ZooWorld team, you will be required to work a rotating schedule that includes some weekends and holidays, and perform highly physical tasks on a daily basis. We are looking for a team player who can communicate and work well with others while simultaneously complete daily tasks with minimal supervision. Must possess good organizational skills and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
This position will be responsible for the daily care for the collection through feeding, watering, cleaning, and enrichment in the assigned section to a set standard. Duties will include but are not limited to: daily observation of general animal health and behavior, completing daily records, diet preparation, interacting with guests through the use of ambassador animals, keeper talks, and up-close experiences. Willing to assist management with medications, procedures, and restraint.

Education and Pre-requisites

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 1 paid animal care position or
• High school graduate with at least 2 years paid exotic experience
• Experience working with Class 1 animals
• Physically fit with the ability to crawl, run, climb and lift at least 60 lbs
• Must be able to interact with guests in a courteous and professional manner
• Ability to work in Florida weather conditions for extended periods of time
• Ability to learn and integrate information, knowledge, and direction quickly
• Must be reliable and show initiative
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Preference will be given to candidates with:
• Bachelor’s degree or college coursework in relevant biological field or equivalent
• 2 years or more at an animal care facility
• Experience handling, feeding and caring for class 1 animals
• Experience with public presentation
• Leadership skills
