Description
WWP Zoo has a current vacancy for a Zookeeper. The Zookeeper will work under general direction of the Zoo Director, Zoo Curator, and Senior Zookeepers. The Zookeeper must complete the daily tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision, keep detailed daily records, and be proficient in observing animals and their behaviors. The WWP Zoo staff are committed to providing a high-quality operation of animal care and a awesome visitor experience. The Zookeeper duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
•Observing and carrying out all aspects of daily care of our diverse animals.
•Following all approved procedures listed in our SOP’s for each area assigned.
•Maintain behavioral enrichment program.
•Cleaning, maintaining, and conducting safety checks for animal habitats.
•Utilizing hand tools, rakes, shovels, power-washer, minor power tools to fix, clean, enhance, and maintain animal enclosures and habitats.
•Cross-training all assigned areas of the zoo.
Education and Pre-requisites
•Minimum high school diploma and 18 years of age and valid driver’s license with good driving record.
•Experience-Hands on experience at a zoo, farm, wildlife park, animal facility or similar institution.
•Education-A college degree in biology sciences or a related field, but not required.
•Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds, when necessary, kneel, bend, crouch, squat, and stand for extended periods of time.
•Ability to perform strenuous physical work required.
•Ability to work long hours, weekdays, weekends and holidays.
•Able to work effectively indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather and in all conditions (i.e., heat, rain, snow).
•Must maintain current tetanus vaccination within 10 years
and proof of a negative TB within the current year.
