Description
Barn Hill Preserve is a 12-acre zoo in Ethel, LA. We are home to over 130 animals across a variety of taxa. We are most well-known for our two-toed sloths, Asian small-claw otters, and red kangaroo. We are currently building a safari park, with phase 1, the Africa paddock, already started. At the safari park we are home to giraffe, eland, grants zebra, wildebeest, and more! We frequently participate in conservation projects, from Australia to Costa Rica.
We are in the process of applying for accreditation through ZAA.
Zookeepers at Barn Hill Preserve are responsible for daily husbandry/maintenance of animal exhibits. Additional responsibilities include:
~Daily observations of animal collection for medical and behavior purposes
~Preparing diets
~Daily interaction with guests
Education and Pre-requisites
~Bachelor’s degree in zoology or related field preferred
~1 year experience animal husbandry preferred
~Positive reinforcement training experience a plus
Compensation and benefits
Hourly rates from $12-$20/hour based on experience
Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
Temporary housing can be provided
