Description

Seeking highly motivated and innovative individuals to fill a full-time, permanent Zoo Keeper 2 position. Keeper 2 are expected to lead fellow keepers and set a standard and example as well as take on extra responsibility as needed from the curator and director.

This position will care for a variety of exotic animals in a fast paced educationally focused environment. As part of the ZooWorld team, you will be required to work a rotating schedule that includes some weekends and holidays, and perform highly physical tasks on a daily basis.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Daily husbandry for a wide variety of animals including Class I. Prepare and feed regular and special diets to exotic zoo animals. Properly clean, disinfect and maintain cages, enclosures and exhibit areas as needed and to a set standard. Understand safety standards and maintain safety of animals, guests and staff. Conduct daily observations of animals to monitor health, well-being, illness or injury. Ability to appropriately report inconsistencies to necessary staff. Assist senior staff as needed with administering medications, providing treatment and restraint. Identify maintenance issues and resolve or report as necessary. Document animal records with accuracy. Daily interaction with public through the use of ambassador animals, keeper talks, and up-close experiences.

Education and Pre-requisites

Has a science related degree and a minimum of 1 year of paid direct animal care experience
or
Has no degree, but has at least 2 years of paid direct animal care experience
Has completed at least 500 observed hours on two, Class I or II animals
Has written and maintained at least 1 breeding program
Experience in exhibit modifications
Proficient and experienced with public speaking and guest interactions
