Description

full-time, permanent Zoo Keeper 1 position.
This position will care for a variety of exotic animals in a fast paced educationally focused environment. As part of the ZooWorld team, you will be required to work a rotating schedule that includes some weekends and holidays, and perform highly physical tasks on a daily basis.
Daily husbandry for a wide variety of animals. Prepare and feed regular and special diets to exotic zoo animals. Properly clean, disinfect and maintain cages, enclosures and exhibit areas as needed and to a set standard. Understand safety standards and maintain safety of animals, guests and staff. Conduct daily observations of animals to monitor health, well-being, illness or injury. Ability to appropriately report inconsistencies to necessary staff. Assist senior staff as needed with administering medications, providing treatment and restraint. Identify maintenance issues and resolve or report as necessary. Document animal records with accuracy. Daily interaction with public through the use of ambassador animals, keeper talks, and up-close experiences.
All animal care staff are required to interact regularly with zoo guests, maintain a clean and professional appearance and conduct themselves in a positive fashion at all times.

Education and Pre-requisites

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Bachelors degree or higher with at least 1 internship or
High school graduate with at least 2 years paid exotic experience.
Good interpersonal and communications skills.
Must be able to interact with guests in a courteous and professional manner.
Must be able to learn and integrate information, knowledge, and direction quickly.
Must be reliable and show initiative.
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Bachelor’s degree or college coursework in relevant biological field or equivalent.
Six months or more at an animal care facility.
Experience handling, feeding and caring for reptiles.
Experience with public presentation.
