Description

The Randall Oaks Zoo is seeking a Zoo Program Leader for Traveling Animal Shows and Zoo Birthday Parties. Experience handling a variety of domestic and exotic animals is necessary (not including household pets). Requirements for this position include the ability to present educational programs with confidence and enthusiasm to groups of all ages. Zoo Program Leads will be doing off site events/shows with zoo animals as well as on site hands on tours/birthday parties. Zoo Program lead must work closely with zoo staff as well as other program staff, teamwork and leadership skills are a must.

Education and Pre-requisites

• Must be comfortable with all aspects of running Traveling Animal Shows and Birthday Parties including care of, handling, and safe transportation of program animals
• Ability to work comfortably with potentially dangerous and unpredictable animals in a variety of environments
• Ability to present engaging and educational animal shows to groups of all ages and sizes
• Ability to spend long hours on feet and be able to lift 25 pounds
• Flexibility and willingness to learn new job tasks
• Ability to keep records and perform vehicle maintenance tasks
• Ability to understand and carry out a variety of specific care instructions particular to each animal, as well as a basic knowledge of a variety of different species
• Monitoring and reporting on animal behavior and health issues
• Must be comfortable Coordinating large Birthday Party groups
• Giving engaging hands-on tours of Zoo in a noisy and crowded environment
• Must be willing to do general clean up tasks including cleaning of vehicles, crates, and cleaning up after birthday parties
• Must be comfortable working with families and children in potentially stressful situations
• Possession of a driver’s license (Class D) and ability to safely operate motor vehicle
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes holidays, weekends, and evenings
• Maintenance of clean, safe and organized exhibits and equipment
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Compensation and benefits

Hourly rate of pay is $9 to $10 an hour depending on experience
