Description

The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, the fifth oldest zoo in America, is accepting applications for current and future keeper openings. While not currently AZA accredited, we continue to strive to meet all AZA standards, and look forward to re-accreditation in the future. Applicants should be forward-thinkers, enthusiastic, motivated and excited to participate in an exciting future at the Binghamton Zoo. Animal Care Keepers are trained in one of five sections of the zoo, with the possibility of rotating through additional sections in the future.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: providing daily care for the collection through feeding, watering, cleaning, and observation; observation of general animal health and behavior, reporting any abnormalities to supervisors; exhibit maintenance; diet preparation; completing daily written reports; administering prescribed medications; assisting with veterinary procedures; supplying enrichment to the animals under their care; operant conditioning; interacting with the general public and media.

Education and Pre-requisites

Qualified candidates should possess a degree in zoology, biology, or related field. Must have good oral and written skills, be able to follow established daily work routines, with good organizational and time management skills, and utilize good judgment. Looking for a team player capable of positive interaction with co-workers, volunteers and guests. Should be in good physical condition; able to lift 50 lbs. (i.e. grain bag). Must have a valid driver’s license. Must successfully pass a background check. Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and occasional evenings. Must be willing to work in all climatic conditions. Previous zoo experience is a plus.
