Description
This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year. The immediate vacancy is a 12 month, 100% position at Moorpark College.

Under the general direction of a Dean and under the guidance of the Teaching Zoo Operations Supervisor and the Director of Institutional Advancement, Community Relations, and Marketing, the Zoo Development Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing the fundraising and development activities of America’s Teaching Zoo and the Exotic Animals Training and Management (EATM) program.
Representative Duties
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive fund development program for the zoo and EATM program; identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors; develop methods to encourage and solicit private, corporate, and foundation support. E

Establish and meet annual fundraising goals; communicate the objectives, progress, and outcomes of development initiatives to the college and the community. E

Develop, distribute, and track marketing materials and initiatives, including ads, e-campaigns, social media posts, and search engine optimization; coordinate the collection, reporting, and analysis of website data; create and disseminate electronic and printed brochures, flyers, bulletins, newsletters and other materials. E

Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Zoo and EATM program; represent the Zoo and EATM program during special events, committees, and other meetings. E

Serve as liaison between donors, zoo development board members, and the college; maintain ongoing communication with current and potential donors and board members; recruit and administer the selection process of zoo development board members. E

Plan, organize, and present at various college-wide and fundraising events and activities; communicate and coordinate event responsibilities with staff; provide technical information and assistance regarding the EATM program and Zoo to individuals and large audiences. E

Coordinate the collection and analysis of data; participate in the preparation and submission of outreach, fundraising, and fiscal reports, program plans, progress reports, and other narrative and statistical reports. E

Create and maintain a donor database for tracking prospect and donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, participation, and recognition. E

Monitor the inventory, requisitions, budget, and expenditure of funds for marketing and fundraising materials and special events. E

Handle, care for, train, and present domestic and non-domestic animals at the Zoo and during off-site events; capture and restrain animals as necessary for treatment and transport.

Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, letters, and files; compile information and enter data.

Perform other duties as assigned.

E = Essential duties
Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree from a recognized college or university and four years of experience in institutional fundraising, fund development, institutional advancement, or marketing.

OR

A bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university and three years of experience in institutional fundraising, fund development, institutional advancement, or marketing.

OR

A bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, public relations or closely related field and two years of experience in institutional fundraising, fund development, institutional advancement, or marketing.

Additionally, an associate degree in Animal Science or related field and experience in the care and handling of exotic animals is preferred.
Supplemental Information
EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:
This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. To ensure consideration, please submit your application materials by February 9, 2020.

The examination process will consist of any of the following components:

A) Evaluation of Training and Experience (T&E) = Qualifying (pass/fail)
B) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications stated by the filing deadline in order to move forward in the testing process. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will have their application materials reviewed during a Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E). A T&E is an assessment of training and experience that has prepared the candidate for the position. The nine (9) candidates with the highest passing scores on the T&E will be invited to the technical interview. The examination process is subject to change as needs dictate. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email.

Advancement to the next step of the examination process will be limited to the candidates with the highest T&E scores.

All required documents must be submitted by the applicant. Human Resources Department staff will not upload your documents for you. The VCCCD does not accept letters of recommendation for classified positions. Please do not attempt to attach letters of recommendation to your application.

ELIGIBILITY LIST:
Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran’s credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
