HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Wildlife Care Associate under general supervision assists wildlife care staff in feeding and providing for the general care and welfare of wildlife. This position reports to a supervisor.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Educates guests about wildlife and the mission of the organization
Cleans and maintains habitat areas
May assists in feeding wildlife under general supervision
Provides for the general care and welfare of wildlife under general supervision
Observes wildlife behavior
Reports abnormal conditions
Operates a variety of light and medium equipment
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
These openings are specific to Butterfly Jungle. They are short-term positions that will start on March 7th, 2022, and end on May 8th, 2022. Candidates must be able to handle butterflies and pupae. Work shifts will involve interpreting habitat animals, props, bio facts, and other educational materials to the general public visiting these areas. Must be able to interact successfully with a wide range of ages. Must be at least 18 years of age.
JOB EXPERIENCE
Training and/or experience that would demonstrate the essential functions, knowledge and skills listed.
Biological sciences and teaching experience in an informal environment
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Wildlife behavior
Animal biology and zoology
Communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Learn the proper methods and procedures for hygienic wildlife care, feeding and handling
Operate motorized equipment and vehicles
Understand reports
Monitor wildlife behavior and interactions between the guests and wildlife
Understand and carry out instructions
Deal tactfully and courteously with the public

Duration: Union Hourly Non-Exempt Temporary Position – If selected, there will be union fees and dues to be paid to the Union
