Description
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo is located in Brooklyn on 12 acres at the edge of historic Prospect Park and receives more than 300,000 visitors annually. Collection highlights include Hamadryas baboons, Pallas’s cats, Australian dingoes, and North American river otters which are unique to PPZ in the WCS system of parks. It also has a sea lion exhibit, characteristic of all 5 parks and managed collectively within WCS as are many other species. Cooperative management program species (SSP) are part of the PPZ collection.
The size and location of the zoo give it a small town feel with the advantages of being part of a world-renowned conservation organization in a major metropolitan city. The zoo has strong cultural partners within its diverse community and its public programs reflect those partnerships.
