Responsibilities and Duties
Overview
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is currently seeking an individual to fulfill a unique position working with tigers and spider monkeys. This area is a new addition to the zoo and we are looking for an individual with large carnivore experience as well as a passion and desire to excel in our zoo’s mission.
Principal Duties:
* Clean and disinfect animal exhibit areas and holding areas
* Responsible for the daily husbandry, welfare, training, and reproduction management.
* Ensures the safety of the animals, staff, and public
* Responsible for creating, maintaining, and recording enrichment programs
* Responsible for the creation of a positive reinforcement program using operant conditioning.
* Communicates with the veterinarian regarding all health and welfare concerns.
* Facilitates and participates in training for medical procedures, in conjunction with veterinary staff.
* Responsible for creating an environment where animals are given the greatest opportunity to exhibit natural behaviors.
Necessary Skills:
* Ability to interact with the public in an engaging and welcoming manner
* Ability to work as an effective team member as well as function independently
* Strong communication skills
* Comfortable giving public demonstrations and tours
* Positive Attitude
Education and Pre-requisites
Minimum Requirements
* Minimum 2 years working with large carnivores
* Bachelors of Science in Animal Science or related field or compensatory work experience
