The Opportunity: To assist in Wildlife Health Center procedures involving hospitalized and quarantined animals.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Feed and care of hospitalized and quarantined animals in the Wildlife Health Center facilities
2. Assist with restraint (manual and chemical) of animals of all taxa during induction of anesthesia by veterinary staff
3. Preparing regular and prescription diets and formulas as ordered by veterinarians
4. Care for ill animals with zoonotic diseases in isolation facilities
5. Daily maintenance of incubators and other similar environmentally controlled enclosures.
6. Carry out instructions for medical care of animals.
7. Implement and maintain infectious disease control procedures throughout the facility
8. Set up medical equipment and supplies prior to veterinary procedures; clean-up and putting away equipment after use
9. Assist with medical equipment maintenance
10. Oversee the proper handling and disposal of Regulated Medical Waste.
11. Provide logistical support for in-hospital and field procedures.
12. Assist in budgeting for, requisitioning, and keeping records of inventory supplies
13. Assist with necropsies and subsequent clean-up as needed
14. Operate incinerators as needed
15. Set up CDC mandated quarantine areas; perform CDC and USDA mandated quarantine procedures
16. Assist WHC employees with basic needs within their workspaces (moving furniture, maintaining labs etc.)
17. Clean, maintain and refuel the WHC vehicles
18. Perform related tasks and duties as required and/or assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelors of Arts or Science degree
• One year experience in a veterinary clinic, research, zoo, or laboratory animal facility;
• Basic computer literacy necessary
• Knowledge of medical equipment – function and maintenance desirable
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English; ability to function effectively in a complex healthcare setting
• Ability to provide short term care to animals of different health status.
