Description
The Dallas World Aquarium seeks a Senior Mammal Keeper, with carnivore experience, to be part of a team responsible for the care of a diverse collection of primarily neotropical species. Candidate would be responsible for basic animal husbandry, prepare and provide diets, monitor behavior and health of animals, keep accurate and detailed records, provide daily reports, and maintain exhibits (daily cleaning and landscaping). Must be able to capture and handle animals safely if needed. Person must be able to participate in public presentations with guests (both formal and informal).
Education and Pre-requisites
A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Animal Science, Zoology or a related field is preferred. However, candidate must have three to five years of experience working with mammals; preferably large and small carnivores, such as Jaguars, Clouded leopards and Giant otters. Experience with new world primates and neotropical birds will be of value to work on mixed species exhibits. Must be able to accept directions and work as a team member with little or no supervision. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb and lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds. Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include weekends, holidays and special events.
Compensation and benefits
Hourly pay, commensurate with experience/education; health, short and long term disability, visual and dental insurance after probation period; vacation with pay and 401K benefits after one year of employment.
