Roer’s Zoofari Park is located on 30 acres in beautiful northern Virginia, housing over 70 species. The goal of our summer camp is to inspire the next generation to protect wildlife by sparking a connection with animals and nature, through hands-on investigation and team building. We are looking for a enthusiastic leader comfortable handling program animals and working with up to 20 children. The Safari Counselor will be expected to lead campers through camp days filled with learning activities and projects. Staff are expected to approach each day and its unique challenges with enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor. The Safari Camp Staff should focus on making memories, building bonds, and having the best day ever with their campers – every day.

Position is Monday-Friday, starting June 18th through August 17th.

Pre-Camp Season Requirements:
-Attend Counselor orientation and training days in late May and/or early June.
-Learn camp curriculum and other materials provided prior to the start of camp.
-Submit all required paperwork on time.

Education and Pre-requisites

-Must be at least 18 years of age.
-Experience teaching or working with children preferred.
-Must be willing to work outside, in all weather conditions.
-Must be comfortable with public speaking.
-Maintain enthusiasm & patience throughout the day.
-Must serve as a role model for campers; demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic & follow the dress code.
-Must be capable of the physical requirements to work in a zoo setting (ie. lift 50 pounds, etc.)
-Must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
-Must follow all safety protocols.
-Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
