Description

Roer’s Zoofari Park is located on 30 acres in beautiful northern Virginia, housing over 70 species. Interns can expect to gain hands on experience working directly with the animal collection alongside our trained animal care staff. All interns start in the small mammal department and are promoted to other routines based on performance, work ethic and attitude. Roer’s Wild Internship focuses on teaching aspiring zoo professionals the importance of animal husbandry and guest experiences. Daily tasks may include feeding, cleaning, record keeping, behavior observations, assist with medical procedures, give educational presentations to the public, develop enrichment, assist with construction and habitat maintenance, etc.

Education and Pre-requisites

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be willing to work outside, in all weather conditions.
Should be comfortable with public speaking.
Must demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic & follow the dress code.
Must be capable of the physical requirements to work in a zoo setting (ie. lift 50 pounds, etc.)
Must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
Must follow all safety protocols.
Must be able to follow oral and written directions.

Compensation and benefits

Interns are required to pay a $50 administrative fee once accepted.
Uniforms will be provided.
8 Summer positions available.
Interns are expected to work 4 days a week, 8 hour days.
Summer internships are May-August.
