HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Curatorial Registrar supports San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by serving as a member of the animal management team, assisting in the implementation of San Diego Zoo Global’s Animal Transportation and Transaction policy. The Curatorial Registrar’s responsibilities include managing the institution’s animal records and related policies, validating the quality of recorded data, and ensuring the legal compliance of all animal transactions. This position reports to the Associate Director of Life Sciences or Operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Manages and maintains both active and inactive animal collection record systems ensuring data quality, retention schedules, preservation and accessibility
Manages and monitors animal transactions to ensure legal compliance with local, state, federal and international laws, government regulations, industry-specific standards and internal policies and procedures
Trains staff in animal record keeping, records management and animal data standards, including direct entry into ZIMS
Check for accuracy of records daily transactions and report births and deaths, and collection changes
The incumbent maintains necessary records and documentation required for all acquisitions and dispositions, animal breeding, transports, permits, licenses and special agreements
Prepares reports as needed to curatorial and management staff
Processes and records all billing information with appropriate Zoos and Aquariums in accordance with SDZG’s Animal Transportation and Transaction policies
Maintain professional standards for animal record keeping as set forth by the Zoo Registrar Association (ZRA), ensuring records are current and data accurate
Makes travel arrangements in conjunction with animal shipments as required and curatorial staff as required

JOB EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in a zoological setting required
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences, Records Management or other related field preferred
OR
Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience required
ZRA Professional Membership Preferred
ZRA Training Certificate Preferred
AZA Training and Records Training Preferred
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must have strong knowledge of animal taxonomy, scientific nomenclature, animal husbandry and collection management principles
Knowledge of and experience with AZA cooperative animal management programs, such as studbooks, SSPs, TAGs, GSMPs, etc
Knowledge of and experience with IATA regulations and the CITES Convention as well as the US Endangered Species Act
Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs
Demonstrated ability to work with others in a fast paced, diverse environment
Must be able to maintain consistent level of productivity and complete projects and tasks in a reasonable timeframe, to the satisfaction of management
