Description
The Virginia Zoological Park in Norfolk, VA is seeking to hire an enthusiastic and experienced Animal Registrar and Animal Wellness Keeper. This position plays an essential role in maintaining up to date and accurate animal records, is familiar with the use of the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS), keeps federal, state and local permits up to date, prepares annual permitting reports as well as ensures compliance, manages animal transactional paperwork and arranges animal transfers, serves as the primary liaison between the institution and government agencies, manages animal loan agreements, has experience with animal management programs such as studbooks, SSPs and TAGs, etc., and is familiar with AZA standards and AZA accreditation procedures. This position also provides support to the Animal Wellness Campus by assisting animal wellness staff with animal husbandry care, animal diet kitchen assignments, maintenance of the veterinary hospital, quarantine facilities, and diet kitchen, as well as overall awareness and support to the Animal Wellness staff as needed. Work involves ensuring the highest levels of animal care are provided to the zoological collection and good standards are maintained at the Animal Wellness Campus.
