Job Status: part time
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for the care and husbandry of non-human primates, maintenance, and appearance of the Primate areas, and their exhibits.
DUTIES:
•Observe and inspect all animals and exhibits frequently. Note animal’s health, appearance, and behavior as well as the condition of the exhibits and the public area around exhibits
•Clean and maintain exhibits, back-up cages, service areas and equipment, feeding, watering, provide animals with behavioral enrichment
•Assist with light maintenance and construction, prepare daily reports and maintain other departmental records.
•Participate in behavioral enrichment, animal training, and assist with research projects.
•Participate in conservation related projects that reflect the zoo’s mission and departmental goals.
CRITERIA:
•Four year degree in biology, zoology, psychology or related field desired
•Previous non human primate experience desirable
•Successful completion of a Zoo Atlanta primate keeper internship is a plus
•Experience with great apes, knowledge of animal behavior, breeding habits and diets is desired
•Experience with operant conditioning and behavioral enrichment is required
•Good oral/written communication skills are desired
•Strict adherence to personnel health procedures and safety protocols is a must
•Ability to work effectively in a team oriented environment
•Able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), climb ladders and work in inclement weather
•Able to work 40 hrs. per week. Must be available weekends and holidays.

•Driving Requirements: Valid driver’s license
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather
