Description
Utah’s Hogle Zoo is announcing the opening of one full-time Animal Care position on the Primate Team.
The Zoo is seeking qualified applicants for a primate keeper in the Animal Care Department. This full time, year round position will include responsibilities for a diverse group of animals.
The Zoo is seeking a highly-qualified animal care specialist to provide superior daily care of many species with a focus on primates including orangutans and gorillas. Applicant will be involved with exhibit maintenance, conservation breeding programs, introductions for housing, veterinary procedures, animal training and enrichment, addressing the media, and education programs.
Applicants must be able to work effectively with guests, staff and volunteers. Excellent communication and writing skills will be necessary in the successful pursuit of this position. There is a strong expectation of experience in operant conditioning and ability to uphold high enrichment standards.
Applicant must be able to work under diverse and variable weather conditions, in close proximity to guests, be able to lift over 60 pounds without injury, bend, stoop, jump and generally move quickly to avoid dangerous situations.
Education and Pre-requisites
A degree in life sciences, biology, zoology or related field is preferred. Preference will be given to those with at least 2 years paid experience working with primates; specifically great apes at an AZA accredited facility.
