Description:
The Lemur Conservation Foundation is offering a full-time Primate Keeper position starting August 2019. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to gain employment with an AZA certified-related institution, with a strong commitment to conservation, education, and animal welfare.

The Lemur Conservation Foundation (LCF) is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of lemurs through managed breeding, non-invasive research, education, art, and sustainable livelihood, habitat and lemur protection initiatives in Madagascar.

LCF’s U.S. base is located on a 130-acre, non-public, reserve in Myakka City, Florida. The reserve is currently home to 49 lemurs including Lemur catta, Varecia rubra, Eulemur mongoz, Eulemur collaris, Eulemur fulvus, and Eulemur sanfordi, housed in both semi-free ranging forest habitats and traditional indoor/outdoor habitats. The reserve is remotely located; however a variety of cultural and entertainment opportunities, including state parks, beaches, art museums, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and theaters can be found nearby in Sarasota, Bradenton, and Tampa.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Provide high standards of daily animal care through behavioral observations, daily enrichment, proper animal nutrition, monitoring animal welfare and health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, and minor enclosure modifications.
– Maintain accurate and detailed records of the lemurs on both a day-to-day and long-term basis
– Assist in the maintenance of trained behaviors and in the development and training of new behaviors utilizing positive reinforcement techniques.
– Work with the veterinary staff to administer medication or other treatments for illness or injury as directed and maintain accurate medical treatment records.
– Participate in the capture, restraint, and movement of animals.
– Conduct regularly scheduled inspections of facilities, enclosures and forest areas and assist maintenance personnel in repair or maintenance work.
– Conduct general maintenance of grounds, including forest habitats and landscaped areas
– Assist with private tours, special events and research and conservation initiatives.
– Assist with training interns and volunteers.
