Description

California Wolf Center is looking for an experienced, professional and passionate leader to join the team. This position will work as the second in command, just under the Executive Director.

Our Center has high standards and is focused on responsible animal welfare and holistic conservation practices. We seek an individual with experience managing facilities and operations in a zoo or wildlife environment. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing assigned operational staff, including facilities and wolf care personnel, and should have experience with managing facilities and work groups. Hands on skill set in basic construction and building trades is a plus.

CWC has a robust volunteer and internship program. Experience managing volunteer work groups and working with interns is preferred.

Experience with other department work such as development, fundraising, event management, educational programs, and working with and around an executive Board is preferred.

Above all, the right candidate will have demonstrated outstanding experience leading staff. Inclusive, collaborative, and action-oriented leadership is a must.

Education and Pre-requisites

– Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in zoology, biology, or related field.

-Five years of professional work experience in a zoo, wildlife park or related environment, which at least two years has been in a responsible advisory capacity.

Note: The location of the Center is in Julian, California, about 55 miles from the center of San Diego. Primary day to day work will take place at the Center which is located in San Diego’s mountains. The office and the environment are rural. However, the work of the California Wolf Center is national in scope with participation in the Mexican gray wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP).
