Description

The Buffalo Zoo is looking for a Maintenance III worker with a mechanical primary focus to provide skilled maintenance and repair for a variety of Zoo equipment, systems and structures.

Requirements:
• Performs skilled work in multiple building service trades with a focus of mechanical aptitude and equipment repair.
• Makes a variety of skilled repairs and installations rapidly and accurately.
• Trains, supervises and assures the safety and welfare of assigned Maintenance I and II staff.
• Assists in evaluating new Maintenance I and II staff.
• Assists where needed in inter-departmental projects and functions.
• Provides customer service by providing information as requested by visitors.
• Performs daily inspections of all rides, token machines and parking lot equipment.
• Working knowledge of tools, terminology, procedures, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
• Creative “out of the box” thinking approach to problem solving.
• Completes all appropriate paperwork, coordination, communication as required in a timely fashion.
• Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License (non-CDLC or CDL class) and have an average or better driving record based on the evaluation process of our insurance company.
• TB Test Conducted Annually.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Construction and/or Maintenance Manager.

Education and Pre-requisites

Education – High School Diploma or Equivalent / Trade school certification or equivalent education preferred.
• Experience (minimum needed) – At least three (3) years of experience in a related position. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the skilled service, maintenance or building trades.

Physical Demands
• Able and willing to perform sustained work of a physical nature, that may require heavy lifting.
• A fitness for duty test will be required in order for the successful candidate to be given further consideration for the position.

Compensation and benefits

Benefits:
Benefits available include health plan, life insurance, dental, vision, 403B pension plan, annual leave time, holiday time, and sick time benefits. Benefits are available after the successful completion of a probationary period of 60 days of work.

This is a full-time CSEA Non-Exempt Union hourly position. Starting pay will be $20.10 per hour which is 85% of full rate ($23.65) during probation.
