Description
Lead Keeper – Assistant Supervisor Position at Nurtured by Nature/Animal Educators, Inc.
We are looking for an individual with a high degree of competence who takes pride in work well done. Must be a proven leader, team player, and team member. The priorities for this position include attention to animal care and health, fostering a positive team environment, and accomplishing an excellent guest experience.
Background working with animals and animal husbandry (minimum of 3 years’ experience)

Possess strong leadership skills and adept at decision-making

Must be physically fit and able to lift and carry 50 pounds repeatedly and work in all kinds of weather
Likes working outside
Good with people and public speaking
Hard worker, doesn’t mind getting dirty, can do light construction/maintenance of animal enclosures
Self-motivated, go-getter
Able to work autonomously
Management experience, able to supervise small staff
Able to think “outside the box”
Can-do attitude
Agreeable to working atypical hours if emergencies or situations arise with animal care.
Must have at least 4 good references
Able to work with children (Make-A-Wish programs)
Good understanding of animal behavior
Farming/agricultural background a plus
Media experience a plus
Experience bottle raising baby animals a plus
Position description:
Lead Keeper, Assistant Manager, Tour Guide
Hourly position – $20/hr-$26/hr (additional employer contributed $450/mo medical benefits or equivalent pay included if you receive medical benefits from another source). Wage depends on level of experience. Room for compensation advancement.
Two weeks annual paid vacation
Full time (40 hours/week, possibly but rarely up to 50 hours/week)
Job duties
General animal husbandry & maintenance
Care for diverse collection of small exotic animals including, but not limited to, armadillos, sloth, paca, kangaroo, foxes, capybara, lemurs, otters, serval, jackals, birds, and reptiles
Supervise volunteers and small staff in the daily care of above animals
Maintain integrity and safety of animal enclosures
Animal medical care
Tour guide/program host
Occasional bottle raising of baby animals
Research animal issues and resolve them accordingly
Position will require successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
