Description
Roer’s Zoofari Park is located on 30 acres in beautiful northern Virginia, housing over 70 species. We an immediate opening in the animal care department for a lead hoof stock keeper. This will include working with; but not limited to giraffe, addax, anoa, scimitar horned oryx, zebra, warthog, bison, watusi, goats, zebu, etc. Animal care includes diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, inspecting habitats, maintaining habitats, assist with behavior modification, enrichment programs, and daily reports. Lead keepers have more responsibility in training new hires as well as over seeing medical care. This position also includes giving animal presentations and working with the public. Applicants must be able to work independently as well as with a team when necessary. Also, must be willing to work outside, and weekends/ holidays as assigned.
Education and Pre-requisites
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have college degree or four years paid experience.
Must be capable of the physical requirements to work in a zoo setting (ie. lift 50 pounds, etc.)
Must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
Minimum of 4 years experience in animal care.
Compensation and benefits
Paid hourly, based on experience. PTO, medical benefits and bonus pay opportunities.
