Description

Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and the American Sanctuary Association, Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary provides lifelong care to numerous large carnivores and small wild felids, including tigers, lions, bears, mountain lions, caracals, African servals, bobcats and native wildlife not eligible for reintroduction.
The majority of our residents were rescued from substandard conditions, illegally owned and/or confiscated and native wildlife not eligible for reintroduction.
Interns work closely with animal keepers to gain experience in exotic animal husbandry and further develop skills for animal care careers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Daily animal husbandry, diet preparation, habitat and den cleaning, providing informal onsite educational presentations to the public, providing scheduled enrichment and operant conditioning/training, and assisting with habitat building and grounds upkeep.

Education and Pre-requisites

High School Diploma
Six months of volunteer or paid animal care experience.
Must have valid driver’s license and own transportation.
Must be able to regularly lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Must be willing to work in inclement weather.
Strictly adhere to Safe Haven’s no animal contact policy.

Compensation and benefits

This is an unpaid position, however, a $400.00 per month stipend and free onsite housing is provided.
