Description

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is currently accepting applications from hard working, dependable college students and recent graduates to participate in a keeper internship within our Animal Department during the 2017 Season. This is a paid internship. Interns will gain valuable experience working with rare and endangered species including birds, reptiles, small and large mammals, carnivores, hoofstock, and primates by working one-on-one with keepers in a variety of ways.

Duties May Include:
*Assignments and opportunities available to interns are based on individual performance and progress during the internship period.
*Assisting with animal rides and interactive experience stations
*informal and formal guest interactions through keeper talks, demonstrations, animal ambassador encounters, etc.
*Maintaining and cleaning animal enclosures and yards
*Diet preparations and feeding
*Exhibit maintenance
*Creating and distributing enrichment
*Animal training

2017 Internship Dates:
*Term 1: March 1 – November 5 (application deadline: 2/10/17)
*Term 2: March 1 – September 4 (application deadline: 2/10/17)
*Term 3: June 1 – August 1 (application deadline: 4/1/17)

Time Commitment:
The number of hours required per week will vary, but Interns should expect to work at least 30 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.

General Requirements:
*Prospective Interns must be at least 18 years of age before the start of their internship.
*Preference will be given to college students working towards a degree or those that have a degree in zoo science, wildlife biology, zoology, or other related field.
*Excellent public speaking and customer service skills are required.
*Interns must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Interns should be able to stand or walk and be able to perform physical work outside in varied weather conditions for up to 10 hours per day.
*Interns should be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50 to 75 pounds when necessary.
*Interns are required to work with the keeper(s) of their area to create and assess an original enrichment device.
*Interns must commit to our schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
