Description

Build 4 Impact, Inc. provides temporary, traveling exhibits for zoos and museums across the United States. Our exhibits focus on the cultural connections between animals and humans. Most of our exhibits feature live animals. We have a facility outside Louisville, KY that houses retired and surplus animals and the exhibit animals when off route. We are looking for college students, keepers, or retired professionals who are seeking an opportunity for an animal care internship. If your career goal is to be a zookeeper, biologist, naturalist, veterinarian, vet tech, or wildlife educator, Build 4 Impact is a great place to gain experience. You must be available a minimum of 3 days per week, 4 hours each day, on weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays as requested. We are flexible and can work around your class/job schedule.

Duties include: food preparation, cleaning enclosures, maintaining enclosures, training animals, and socializing animals. You may also have the opportunity to learn how to design, develop, market, and install exhibits for zoological institutions and museums. You must be professional, on time, demonstrate a sense of urgency, possess attention to detail, and follow instructions.

Our clients include: the Brookfield Zoo, Potawatomi Zoo, Great Plains Zoo, Virginia Aquarium, Virginia Living Museum, Apes Like Us, Chattanooga Zoo, Delaware Museum of Natural History, Swaner Preserve, Rolling Hills Zoo, and others.

Education and Pre-requisites

Build 4 Impact may consider candidates with formal and informal animal experience.

You should have at least a year of experience working with exotic animals in a zoo, private collection, museum, laboratory, or in nature.

Compensation and benefits

This is an unpaid internship.
However, you will gain valuable experience in the husbandry and training of birds of prey, reptiles, and arachnids. Many of the species in our collection are not found in any other collection in Kentucky.
Interns have the opportunity to accompany us to our client facilities for networking, tours, and experience.
Some of our livestock include: eagle owl, barn owl, over 250 different species of arachnid, large monitor lizards, rhinoceros rat snakes, frilled dragons, and other species.
