Description
The International Exotic Animal Sanctuary (IEAS) is the first sanctuary ever to be granted certification by the AZA. The Sanctuary cares for many exotic animals encompassing 8 different feline species, 3 different bear species, and a number of other small exotic animal species.
We are seeking an experience keeper to add to our team. This position is ideal for a candidate that has experience working with both large and small carnivores in a professional setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Carry out all aspects of the daily care of animals including feeding, cleaning, habitat maintenance and general upkeep of the facility.
• Strictly follow and enforce all safety protocols in order to ensure the highest standards of care and the safety of all staff, volunteers, guests and animals.
• Administer all prescribed medications and supplements according to the animal’s medical regimens.
• Monitor animal health and behavior and communicate any changes or abnormalities to their supervisor.
• Maintain daily records as appropriate and according to established guidelines.
• Identify any potential maintenance or safety issues and report them to the director.
• Oversee all work activities and provide training for interns and volunteers.
• Participate in tours and other public educational programs as requested by supervisor.
• May participate in conservation, AZA, or other related activities as approved.
• Contribute to a variety of fundraising efforts for the facility as requested.
• Must have the physical ability to perform strenuous labor such as standing for long periods of time, lifting, bending, climbing, and working in all types of weather conditions.
• May be required to safely operate a motor vehicle.
• Must be dependable and willing to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
• Must possess strong communication and teamwork skills.

Education and Pre-requisites
Education:
Four-year degree in biology or related field is preferred. Sufficient relevant experience may be considered.
Qualifications
Prior large carnivore experience is preferred. Paid experience at an AZA facility is preferred.
