Description
LEO Zoological Conservation Center is seeking an enthusiastic hoofstock zookeeper to join our team. This section will include Rothschild and reticulated giraffe, Thomson gazelle, Grevy zebra, red river hog and warthog. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
Essential job functions and responsibilities may include but are not limited to animal care, habitat/enclosure maintenance, behavioral enrichment, conditioning training, and assist in safe captures, restraint, transport and veterinary procedures. Position also includes the daily upkeep of animal logs and administering medications. May all be asked to supervise and train interns.
We are seeking a keeper that has experience and working knowledge of hoofstock ecology and behavior. The selected candidate will be expected to adhere to safety policies at all times. *This position has strong, physical daily demands.* Frequent requirements to move moderate to heavy objects and work on uneven terrain with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust and allergens are components of the position. Selected candidate will also be required to move about on slippery surfaces, handle toxic and/or hazardous materials and possible exposure to zoonotic diseases. May work from elevated positions and/or in confined or cramped spaces. The qualified candidate is expected to be a team player and requires excellent interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and professional appearance.
Education and Pre-requisites
A Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in life sciences, zoo keeping, animal psychology or similar, related field is preferred. High School/GED may be accepted provided the candidate has multiple years of directly related work experience.
