Description

Out of Africa Wildlife Park is seeking an animal keeper to care for a diverse collection of ungulates and interact with the public as a tour guide. Experience with large hoofstock and rhinos is preferred. Position is full-time. Schedule includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays as assigned. Applicants must be willing to work outside in extreme weather conditions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, exotic animal care and husbandry, habitat maintenance, operant conditioning, enrichment, diet preparation, daily upkeep of animal logs, and assistance with veterinary procedures as needed. Approved applicant will also be responsible for conducting educational and entertaining safari tours among free-roaming animals in our natural Serengeti habitat.

Education and Pre-requisites

Degree in biology, zoology, wildlife management, animal science, or related field is preferred. Applicants must have good observation and communication skills, work harmoniously with fellow staff and supervisors, and be able to work independently. An outgoing, positive personality is essential as the selected applicant will be expected to provide excellent customer service. Background in large animal husbandry and public speaking preferred. Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Out of Africa is an equal opportunity employer. Drug test required upon employment.

Compensation and benefits

Starting salary is $14 per hour, commensurate with experience, plus all tips made from daily tours. Paid holidays after three months (six holidays a year), one week paid vacation after one year, two weeks paid vacation after three years, and five paid sick days a year.
