Description

B Bryan Preserve, an AZA certified related facility is seeking a motivated, self-starter with large animal experience for a Hoof Stock Manager at our 110 acre preserve in Northern California.

Your responsibilities will be all aspects of daily animal care for a variety of species including Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Roan, Sable and Greater Kudu Antelope in large enclosures. You will also be responsible for conducting tours twice a day to visitors.

Under the direction of the owner(s), the successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high level of animal care by establishing and developing environmental enrichment and training. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, functioning in a lead capacity in the absence of the owners, preparing and implementing plans for introductions, breeding, and veterinary procedures, managing interns and volunteers, and planning for collection and habitat changes.

Further daily duties include monitoring animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, providing environmental and behavioral enrichment, preparing diets, modifying habitats, keeping accurate records, and presenting both formally and informally to the public.

Education and Pre-requisites

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant biological field preferred
• At least 3-4 years’ experience in a zoological or similar type institution, experience with large hoof stock required.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication as well as decision skills; have high energy and enthusiasm for completion of tasks; possess team building skills; and has the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Competency in computer skills.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license

Compensation and benefits

Job starts immediately. Temporary housing may be provided while you get settled. We are not a traditional zoo setting as our animals are in large open enclosures. We are located in a remote but beautiful area of northern California.

Pay based on experience.
