Guest Engagement Intern (Zoo and Aquarium)

Internship Overview:

The Education team at Audubon Zoo and Aquarium of the Americas is seeking candidates interested in informal education through development of public speaking and interpretation skills. Interns will learn basic interpretation techniques, proper animal handling methods, and to speak comfortably in front of crowds. Requires a 20-24 hour per week commitment for 12-14 weeks. Working on weekends and holidays may be required. Internship is unpaid.

Responsibilities:

Learn proper animal handling procedures for our education animals and gain skills to present these animals in front of the public
Learn presentation and public speaking skills to effectively conduct informational chats about various animals at the aquarium
Provide excellent customer service for guests and engaging interpretation at the touch pool and parakeet pointe exhibits
Create an intern project that will be approved by the education staff
Qualifications:

Interested in pursuing a career in interpretation and/or education
Is enthusiastic, friendly, and works well with a team
Willing to hold animals including tarantulas and snakes
Must be able to consistently lift 25 pounds
Willing to spend majority of shift on the “front lines,” interacting with Zoo and Aquarium guests
