Description
The Center for Great Apes is an accredited sanctuary for 27 orangutans and 44 chimpanzees.
With rapid recent growth during the past year, the Center has openings now for great ape caregivers to help provide quality care in a sanctuary environment. Each caregiver works with individual groups of chimpanzees or orangutans within 12 areas at the sanctuary. Position includes normal caregiving duties of daily cleaning, diet prep and feeding, monitoring health with the veterinary staff, providing creative enrichment, and observing behavior.
Education and Pre-requisites
Bachelor’s degree in a related subject and 2 years primate caregiving experience preferred.
Applicants should have experience in positive reinforcement training… be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.. and be able to lift 50 pounds. Additionally, applicants must have a current negative TB test and proof of COVID19 vaccination and booster.
Compensation and benefits
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Based on experience $13 – $14 to start

The Center for Great Apes is located in south central Florida in a rural area amidst orange groves and pastureland. Distance from nearby towns: Wauchula and Avon Park are 10-15 minutes away, Sebring is 20 minutes, Lake Wales is 30 minutes, Lakeland is 45 minutes, and Orlando and Tampa are 90 minutes north.
