Description
Under the direction of the Randall Oaks Park & Zoo Division Manager performs skilled tasks related to park and zoo maintenance. Effectively leads crews from 1 to 8 staff. Serves as Manager on Duty when the zoo and park are open for business. Oversees park operations including customer service, cleaning, feeding, animal training, enrichment, husbandry, and public education. Some of the essential functions include:
– Welcomes, provides assistance, answers questions and resolves problems for zoo visitors and park patrons.
– Monitors animals’ health conditions and directs any medical concerns to the Zoo Manager. May provide veterinary care to animals such as administering medications or providing husbandry care.
– Handles cash, credit and other financial transactions.
– Basic computer operating knowledge such as email, internet searching, and database entering.
– Review daily tasks to ensure compliance with animal care and maintenance standards.
– Completes inspections, reports, and records that are accurate, professional, and timely.
– Supports and works to achieve the Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives of the Dundee Township Park District and Randall Oaks Zoo.
– Cognizant and compliant with customer service standards, policies and procedures. Cooperatively and positively collaborates with staff and patrons.
– Ability to work with minimal supervision.
– Provides support for special events as required.
Education and Pre-requisites
– Associates degree in related field (animal science, biology, or zoology) required; Bachelor’s degree desired.
– Two years of increasingly responsible experience in professional animal care field.
– Ability to read, understand and apply technical information and manuals.
– Knowledge of principles and practices of animal care, park maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
– Proficient in operation and maintenance of a wide variety of park maintenance tools, vehicles and equipment.
– Knowledge of applicable safety and OSHA regulations.
– Proficient with public interactions and customer service.
Compensation and benefits
This is a full time year-round position normally working 40 hours per week. Scheduled times and days may vary. Weekend and holiday work will be required as well as irregular hours. This position has the option for benefits and the pay rate depends on experience but ranges from $12 to $14 an hour.
