Description

The Seasonal Keeper is responsible for providing the highest quality of daily care and husbandry for all animals in the collection, maintaining all exhibit aspects of the Farmyard, and facilitating animal/visitor interactions. This position will also assist with educational programs, animal demonstrations, and interactive activities for the guests. Duties include:

Inspect all animals and exhibit areas several times daily, note the animals’ appearance and behavior, and the condition of the exhibit facilities with regard to animal and guest safety.
Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the exhibit area, animal holding areas, and service areas
Responsible for assembling and distributing animals’ diets as directed, ensuring animals have clean, fresh water at all times.
Interact with and guide visitors through hands-on animal encounters in a free contact yard in a professional, hospitable manner.
Maintain and represent 1850s-1930’s era Georgia farm theme in costume and presentation to visitors.
Participate in Historic Square/Farmyard education programs and public demonstrations.
Assist with animal training as directed.
Assist contract veterinarian and senior keepers with animal care as directed.
Perform light maintenance duties when required.
Complete animal records as directed including daily reports and training/enrichment logs.

Education and Pre-requisites

Must understand, read, write and speak the English language
Must be at least 18 years old
Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers
Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Must have excellent communication skills and sense of appropriateness to converse with employees and guests
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers or employees
Strong teamwork ethic
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to:
Stand for long periods of time and walk
Use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Frequently required to talk and hear
Occasionally lift and/or move carry, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.
Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus and night vision.

Compensation and benefits

$9.50 hourly plus park perks
